As may be seen from the calendar, the programme for the year commencing 2 October 2009 is an interesting one which should whet the appetite.

River Trip:

The river trip is planned for Saturday 3 July 2010.  We shall be embarking at Caversham, bound for Mapledurham, where we shall be visiting the House, Church and Mill and, if desired, partaking of a cream tea.  The current miller is a guide with a great sense of humour and you may be sure that the visit to his mill will give the opportunity of really appreciating how the corn is ground, producing the satisfying flour on sale in the gift shop and will also inform you of the mill's interesting history.

The film The Eagle Has Landed was filmed on the Estate.

Further information about Mapledurham may be found on their Website www.mapledurham.co.uk

Residential French Courses:

On behalf of Celia Weber, a frequent speaker at our Club, we advise that residential French courses, formerly held in Abergevenny, will now take place at Farncombe Estate, Cotswolds Conference Centre, Broadway (excellent accommodation and food).  Please see www.farncombeestate.co.uk for more details.

This talk, by Elizabeth Manley, was notable for the excellence of her pictures.   A selection can be seen by clicking on the thumbnails below, though website representation does not do them justice.

Christmas 2009 Meeting

The Club had great pleasure in welcoming Ad Hoctet, who are members of the Phoenix Choir, at Wokingham Town Hall, when they presented a delightful programme of music which included French carols, some with audience participation.  There were solos too and we all enjoyed our friend Didier Garçon's expertise on pipe and drums.  We thank Treasurer, Audrey Williams, who master minded the event, supported by the Committee.  The delicious buffet meal, served halfway through the evening, was appreciated by all and we express much appreciation to our members for their mouth-watering contributions.  Cancer Research was the charity chosen by the Choir and the Club presented them with a cheque for £200.
